Did You Hear About: The Other Art Fair Brooklyn

The Other Art Fair BK by Camile O.

Art fairs can be a bit overwhelming for artists and collectors alike. And I'm not just talking about the "Big Fish" like Art Basel or Frieze. If you're a fan of supporting artists, but not necessarily of how the art world treats them, here's an event that might be right up your alley. The Other Art Fair takes place throughout the year spanning six seven (I see you, Chicago!) cities around the globe: London, Sydney, Los Angeles, Bristol, Melbourne, and Brooklyn.

Spearheaded by Saatchi Art and a committee that selects only 130 artists to showcase their wares, The Other Art Fair Brooklyn will take place during the first weekend in May. Artists from every medium imaginable will be in attendance, not only sharing with you the answers to any questions about their work and vision, but also to sell to you -- the collector -- directly. See, I told you this might be right up your alley.

Although the Brooklyn show is only in its third year, it's already considered a codebreaker in allowing artists to develop firsthand partnerships with their potential buyers, as well as fostering a sense of fellowship among the artistic community overall. From May 3rd to May 6th, you'll find art produced by creatives of all genders, generations, ethnicities, and economic backgrounds ready to tell you about their work, and then sell it you.

Full disclosure? I have a buddy who made it into the cavalcade of artists selected this year, and I couldn't be more excited for her. Her name is Camile O'Briant, and she's not only a talented fine art photographer, but she's also easily one of the most observant collectors of the ordinary-extraordinary I've ever met. (Take a look at her work to see what I mean.)

Whether you're a newbie to the art scene or a collector who's also on the search for the next emerging talent, add The Other Art Fair Brooklyn to your calendar. You won't regret you did.

Early Bird tickets are only $7 until April 16th. In the two weeks leading up to the event, tickets are $13.50 for students and seniors, and $15 for the public.
